Associate Teaching Professor

I was lucky enough to have an incredible math teacher in high school who made problem-solving feel like play. That experience hooked me on mathematics and eventually led me to actuarial science as a way to harness that love of numbers, probability, and logic in service of real people’s financial security. Before coming to Notre Dame, I spent nearly 30 years in industry as a life actuary, working primarily in the life and annuity space. Most recently, I served as Director of Actuarial Research & Development at Moody’s Analytics, focusing on actuarial modeling systems and annuity products. On campus, I’m now an Associate Teaching Professor in the Applied & Computational Mathematics and Statistics (ACMS) department, as well as the faculty advisor for the Actuarial Science Club. I teach courses that connect probability, financial math, business, and modeling to the kinds of problems actuaries actually work on in the field. My educational background is in mathematics and business, with a focus on finance, and I am a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA).

What does being a "career champion" mean to you?
Being a “career champion” means helping quantitative thinkers learn about actuarial science and the wonderful career that it is, while also using my industry experience to demystify actuarial and insurance careers, share honest stories, and help students see how their own strengths and values can translate into meaningful, sustainable work.
